Zareen grew up in a small town outside of Boston. Most days someone in her family would be sitting at the piano. At the age of 7, she started playing classical violin in the footsteps of her oldest brother. And at the age of 11 she took up classical piano. She didn't start singing until her senior year of high school.
Realizing that singing was her true passion, she continued singing in college. She joined an a cappella group and won the award for runner-up best soloist at the National Championship of Collegiate A Cappella regional competition.
During college, she also sang in several choral groups including the Freie Universitaet Chor in Berlin, Germany.
She has studied with Grammy-nominated Kurt Elling, Madeline Eastman and Raz Kennedy, formerly of Bobby McFerrin's Voicestra.
She has performed at venues all over the Bay Area including Yoshi's, Jelly's, Yerba Buena Gardens, Boom Boom Room, Rasselas, Sweewater, Pier 23, St. Francis Yacht Club, Freight & Salvage, La Pena Cultural Center, River Rock Casino, El Rincon, Hotel Utah, Rock Soup, Espresso Garden and many others. She has performed with many wonderful musicians including Chris Amberger, Ron Belcher, David Belove, Jeffrey Chin, Ruth Davies, Bill Douglas, Bryan Dyer, Ed Kelly, Gabe Lucas, Frank Martin, Alexa Weber Morales, Fred Randolph, Melissa Rapp, Dee Spencer, Robert Stewart, Wayne Wallace, Michael Zisman and many others.
She currently sings with "Los Boleros" (afro-cuban band), "Canyon Birds" (straight-ahead jazz), "Kelly and Zareen" (acoustic family-friendly duo), The Befores" (original trip-hop), .
